You have to learn to be more critical and not to accept everything just because others tell or show you (kindly) their intentions. Usually you are, to your cost, too conforming and permissive, and now you need to examine your own as well as others’ demenour. You need to assess the drawbacks of a certain event. You need to line up rational arguments and counter-arguments. You should not be biased. Feel free to decline certain parts of the situation that are – if you think about it – not right for you. You will then need to express yourself and act accordingly – the more wisely you do this, the more others will respect your boundaries that you have just established.
